A genuinely high performer with deep rich blacks possible with backlight and other picture controls. The internal digital tuner is pretty sensitive with good signal strength from my loft aerial, but large areas of bright primary colours can sometimes get a little out of control and bleed. Using an external Freeview box results in a cleaner picture with better colour gradation. If you watch a lot of DVDs then you're in for a treat as the progressive scan capability pulls in superb detail. Sound is quite detailed although a bit bass light - to be expected from internal speakers.
Great value prices can be had if you shop around.
What are the strengths?
Very high quality and detailed picture, especially from external sources. Sound is clean and crisp. Excellent picture control including backlight levels. Progressive scan from DVD gives the best picture I've seen from an SD source. Loads of sockets for other boxes including composite, component, s-video, HDMI and RGB. Both scart sockets support RGB. HD ready.
What are the weaknesses?
Turning subtitles on or off is a mess of menu steps.
Integral digital tuner sometimes has trouble controlling bright primary colours which can bleed into adjacent areas. Only one HDMI socket. Sound is a bit bass light.
