Good But Beware
Summary
Although it is excellence value for money for the printer itself, you have to be fully aware of the cost of the toner kits. Also if you get a problem don't expect Epson to fix it anytime soon.
How long have you used the product?
More than 3 months
- What are the strengths?
- Price of printer itself.
- What are the weaknesses?
- Can be very noisy when starting up or preparing to print. approximately 15-30 seconds of noise before it actually gets going.
Also I had it running through a network of 4 computers, and although the software was correctly installed we kept getting a communication error. Called Epson several times to try and rectify the issue but never sorted. Epson said that they would be releasing a patch at the end of May, which i have still not yet found.
The price of the toner kits can be very expensive especially since the black runs out we have calculated it to be an extra 500 sheets until the colours run out (and they all run out at the same time).
Could be slightly faster with regards to printing larger documents.

Summary
true
At only £399 including VAT for this colour laser printer, it's really quite hard to fault it for the money.
It's only recently that the prices have come down for colour lasers, so they are now in the price range for the small office.
We have only just recently bought our third C900, having had several of the older Epson C1000 printers before.
Needing to get another laser, my first intentions were to get another C1000, but they had unfortunately been replaced by the smaller (and cheaper) C900 so we thought we would give it a try. Luckily for us, the gamble has definately paid off.
The printer is of average size for a printer of this type (about the size of a 21" TV) so can just about fit on a desk, but we found it far better to stick ours on a small table beside the desk. It is best to get someone to help when you have to move it though, as it weighs nearly 30kg.
It takes a couple of minutes to power on and get itself sorted out for printing, but thats n

You get more than you pay for compared with the other products that I considered. The ideal small office/home colour laser - particularly at this price.
How long have you used the product?
Less than 1 month
- What are the strengths?
- fantastic value for money. Especially from The Printer Database.
The photo reproduction is far better than I had expected after reading the product info and reviews. Easy to set up and use.
Great for small runs of leaflets and sales literature.
- What are the weaknesses?
- Very heavy for a home use printer.
Nothing else in the initial use. I've only set it up with a USB link to one pc.

The ideal colour laser for home/small business use
Summary
Great printer. Wakes up on demand (a little noisy) but powers down about 20 mins later into a silent sleep mode, so can be kept switched on at all times. Excellent printing results. Extremely easy to set up. Shame that not all the network printing methods work perfectly, but one does work and as long as you know which one all is well. Not intended for printing photos (hence it came with a free Epson Stylus 830 photo printer during the first 3 months of this year), but once it is set up and working it will do everything you expect of it.
How long have you used the product?
Less than 1 month
- What are the strengths?
- A great little printer. Clear crisp output and does everything it says on the box. If you have ever used a colour laser printer at work, this is the machine that will give you that sort of output at home.
- What are the weaknesses?
- Very few. The C900N version has a few "technicalities". I have the C900N, which is the same printer with a network card. Of the 3 ways of setting up Network Printing, I found that only "internet printing" worked correctly. The other two gave good results intiially but once the printer powered down into sleep mode it could not be re-awoken. Not a problem, when you know about it, but annoying to have to find out.
